Prevention and Recovery Service

Our Prevention and Recovery Service (PARS) offers you a non-crisis response structured programme of emotional support if you are affected domestic violence and abuse but are at low risk of harm. We can help you to make sense of your experience, recover and move on positively.

It’s most likely you will have left your abusive relationship, but we can also help if you want to understand if your relationship is abusive, empowering you to make positive choices about your future.

Our support is tailored to meet your unique needs and is delivered by phone and through face to face sessions in the community in a safe location.

All new referrals are placed on a waiting list, where you can choose to either receive a regular phone support call, or simple wait until face to face support is available. The typical wait time for this is around 3-4 months.

Our PARS is delivered by a team of highly trained and experienced paid workers and volunteers, who are all trained to the same standards.

We can help in the following ways:

  • Understanding abusive relationships
  • Coming to terms with what is/has been experienced
  • Rebuilding self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Exploring ways to stay safe
  • Recognising warnings signs of abusers
  • Planning for the future, including building healthy relationships.

“My worker helped me admit and start to finally understand the abuse I had suffered for 11 years, giving me the tools to identify the cycle of abuse, so I could predict future behaviour of my ex”.

“Without BCD, I think I would have given into the pressure to go back to my ex due to self-doubt, fear and confusion”.

“I had thought my worker would simply be someone who met with me and asked how I was doing and listened. I was not expecting what I got. The service is so well structured, working through the key stages to recovery: understanding domestic abuse, working out its impact on me and then working on tasks to aid recovery. I was bowled over by this structured support plan”.

“Understanding the past through what the worker did with me, helped me to cope with it”

“They were reliable; they called and did what they said they would without fail. To know that someone cared about my wellbeing was so special”

“I’ve come such a long way in such a short space of time”
