Howard Stones:

I am a Senior Lecturer in Childhood Studies at Leeds Beckett University.  I have a long-standing interest in domestic abuse and previously carried out evaluation of work with men who have been violent towards women partners.  My current work with students involves raising awareness of domestic abuse, its impact on children, young people and families and the services available to support them.

Rebecca Shenton:

I am Family Lawyer at a national firm specialising in matters involving children and domestic abuse. Within my role I act as an advocate for vulnerable adults and children and work with other national charities to support them. Whilst training to be a Solicitor, I also worked as a volunteer with a domestic abuse charity organisation in north Manchester supporting women and children fleeing abusive homes. I continue to actively work with numerous organisations nationally as well as within the Leeds area. I have a passion for promoting change in the way we support adults and children who have been affected by domestic abuse and continue to work both within my professional role and with my charity links to support and achieve these changes.

Alison Richards:

Alison spent her working life in the public and voluntary sector before retiring in 2006. She has worked in Social Work and Community Development and has in the past provided direct support services for Lone Parents and Homeless Families.

Following her retirement she served as a member of West Yorkshire Probation Board. She is currently a school governor at an inner city primary school, and a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners Patient Participation Group.

Our Trustees are responsible for the governance and efficiency of our service. Their mix of knowledge and skills supports our work and helps drive the organisation forward at a strategic level. We are currently looking for new members who can bring key skills to the Board; legal, business, change management, finance, HR and statistics. If you think you could help make a difference, email

David Ruddimann:

I have spent 35 years in the furniture business, I sold my business in 2009 and semi retired I now split my time between 4 charities and I am a consultant for The Cranfield Trust, a charity that places business people into charities that are struggling or have a specific project to complete. I was drawn to BCD having been approached by a colleague and I have been inspired by the great work the charity does quietly and behind closed doors.
