Volunteering for Behind Closed Doors

BCD values volunteers as co-workers in carrying out the aims of the project and in supporting the people we work with.

Volunteers are involved in all of the activities of the project at all levels, including decision making wherever possible.

We welcome applications from people who feel they have the time and the appropriate skills to work with us, and will do our best to provide a placement which meets the needs of the project whilst at the same time suiting the skills and desires of each volunteer.

We do ask Volunteers to commit to a minimum of six hours per week (in a single block within the hours of 8.30 am to 5.00 pm, weekdays only) for both the volunteer and the organisation to benefit from the volunteering opportunity.  If you are not able to consider this due to your commitments, you may want to look at supporting Birdcage, our vintage shop, or joining our "Friends of BCD" group

Many people with a passion and interest in supporting our work are unable to commit the time required to volunteer during the day, perhaps due to personal circumstances or employment.  We would love to hear from anyone who would like to be part of the "Friends of BCD" Group which allows them to be involved and supporting the organisation but at a time convenient to them.

The Friends Group is made up of people who want to volunteer their time, skills and energy to supporting a common cause.  It has a remit to support the organisation in raising awareness of domestic abuse as a major social issue for people of all ages, in all walks of life and, through enjoyable community- based events, to raise funds (and our profile) to support our essential work.   We hope the Friends Group will enable others unable to, or less confident about, volunteering in a direct capacity to make their own positive contribution and inspire other local people to become involved.

To obtain more information and register your interest, follow this Friends of BCD link.  The page that opens will allow you to send us some brief details and we will call you at a time convenient to you to discuss it further.

Without your help, Behind Closed Doors cannot provide the vital information, support and services that help hundreds of people every year.
